Alden Kroll, the product designer for Valve, shared information at Unite Europe 2017 that outlined a new system that would be in place for the Steam app that would streamline their recommendation function, thus improving discoverability and better game recommendations for players.
The current recommendation system in place for Steam is that a group within Valve decide which games would be of interest for players. This new feature will give that control to the customers, allowing them to choose which games will be of interest for them, allowing them to customize and personalize the store for their own interests.
The new system will also look at what games players are playing and take that into account for what other products people may have an interest in. Thus, recommendations will be far more specific going from player to player.
