Hideo Kojima, the creative mind behind the Metal Gear Solid series, has stated on numerous occasions that his upcoming game, Death Stranding, doesn't fit neatly into any pre-existing genre and that it falls under what he calls the "Strand genre." But now, ahead of the title's upcoming launch, Kojima explains whether his new game will be the one to establish this new genre.
While speaking at the 2019 Cologne Film Festival live panel (via MP1st), the director revealed that he believes he will need to create even more games if he hopes to fully establish the "Strand genre."
“I want to relay the new game feeling to the user,” Kojima explained. “Previously it was the stealth genre, but this time I just kind of call it the Strand genre. And if I want to establish a real genre, I feel that I need to create more games to make the genre a genre.”
Although he's making his desire to make more Strand-like games known, it still remains a bit unclear whether this means he wants to develop sequels to Death Stranding or if he simply hopes to produce new entries in this budding genre.
Death Stranding is officially set to be released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on November 8, 2019.
