H1Z1: Battle Royale has officially launched on PlayStation 4 today. The free-to-play game was previously in open beta on the system. A launch trailer was released today giving gamers a look at the intense battle royale gameplay, which includes all of your standard weapons of warfare and vehicles as well as a brand new Battle Pass filled with cosmetics to customize your character.
An update arriving alongside the game's official launch also brought two new weapons: the explosive RPG found in gold tier drops, and the deadly SOCOM Sniper Rifle found in purple tier drops. The RPG, of course, specializes in taking out vehicles, while the Sniper Rifle is perfect for long-range gunfights. The new ARV vehicle also arrives and can fit a full team of five.
“Everyone here at Daybreak Games is thrilled with the overwhelmingly positive response to H1Z1’s debut on PS4,” said H1Z1 Producer Terrence Yee.
“Ten million new players in our first month in Open Beta is an incredible milestone, and our entire development team has worked tirelessly to build on that early success. We’re beyond excited to officially launch H1Z1 on PS4—this is our fully realized vision for battle royale on console.”
H1Z1: Battle Royale's Battle Pass offers unlocks with up to 30 rewards levels. Unlike
Fortnite's Battle Pass,
H1Z1's actually includes three different tiers: free, premium, and PS Plus. The Season 1 premium pass can be purchased for $5.49, while the PS Plus tier is available as long as you're a PlayStation Plus member. The free tier is free for everyone. All level progression carries over between the tiers.
In addition to the Battle Pass,
the Viper Start bundle is available for $4.99. This includes the Viper Outfit and matching animated Viper AR-15, three Apocalypse Crates, and 500 Crowns (used to purchase crates in-game that unlock new customization items). Alternatively,
the Hardline Launch Bundle, which includes the Premium Battle Pass, is available for $34.99 and also comes with the Hardline Outfit, three animated weapons, the Hardline ARV skin and parachute, six Apocalypse Crates, and 1,050 Crowns.
With the release of
H1Z1: Battle Royale, gamers now have another alternative to the wildly popular
Fortnite. However, it's important to note that aside from the battle royale premise, both games appear to be very different, both in terms of artistic style and gameplay.
