Sony may soon be unveiling the PlayStation 5, but some developers have already started working on video games for the highly anticipated next-gen console. Next week's Thursday, in fact, Sony will stream an online presentation in which some of these new games will be announced.

With all the anticipation that Sony's presentation has gardnered, players are more excited than ever about the yet-to-be-unveiled console; hopefully, the developer will finally give them their first look at the PlayStation 5 and reveals its retail price.

The new piece of information about the PlayStation 5 comes from PlayStation 4 developers themselves, who have some rather interesting details to Eurogame; including information about video game compatibility between Sony's current and next-gen systems.

As reported by Eurogamer, any new games that PlayStation 4 developers submit after the 13th of July will have to be compatible with the PlayStation 5; they will need to be forwards compatible. Games submitted before the 13th of July are not subject to this rule, however.

Developers who submit games after the 13th of July will also have to ensure that games are forwards compatible with the PlayStation 5. For this reason, Sony has revealed that they will be contacting them individually in order to give them all the details about said compatibility.

When it comes to compatibility, Sony specifies that games run without issues on the PlayStation 5, while also providing the same features that are found on the PlayStation 4; every mode should be supported on Sony's new console.

This obviously doesn't apply to games that release after the 13th of July, since this is only applicable to games being submitted before or after Sony's stipulated date.

To further illustrate this point, Ghost of Tsushima has already been submitted to PlayStation 4 a few years ago, but the game will be releasing after the 13th of July. This wouldn't force Sucker Punch to make it compatible with PlayStation 5 — although it is very likely that it will be considering that it is a first party title.
