The game show is about to get a lot more personal. Embark Studios has revealed that THE FINALS Season 12, titled PRIME TIME, will introduce Dynamic Commentary when it launches this week, a feature that lets announcer Scotty call out contestants by name when they do something worth celebrating in a live match.
Embark showed the feature off in a new video, describing it as live commentary for the play you just pulled off. "Let your name resonate in the Arena," the video's description reads. "Now this is what a Game Show is all about!"
Why This Is A Big Deal For THE FINALS
THE FINALS has always leaned hard into its virtual game show setting, with commentators Scotty and June reacting to the chaos of each match. Until now, though, the commentary has stayed general. Hearing Scotty single you out after a team wipe or a clutch cashout is exactly the kind of touch that makes the fiction feel real.
Embark posted the reveal on Sunday (October 18th), just two days before the update goes live. The studio first set the date last month in "A New Chapter," a post from Executive Producer Christian Aarsrud, and revealed the PRIME TIME name at the start of October. Embark's own branding has not attached a season number to PRIME TIME, but it follows Season 11, Galaxy Masters, and is widely being referred to as Season 12.
Back in the Season 11 patch notes, Embark also warned that the Sponsor system and its reward tracks would be replaced in Season 12 with something "more involved and more engaging." That replacement is the new Sponsor Journey, and paired with Dynamic Commentary, it shows the studio leaning harder than ever into the idea that contestants are performing for an audience.
Embark has not yet shared every detail of how the feature works, including how it handles unusual or inappropriate player names and whether players can opt out. Those details should become clearer once PRIME TIME arrives and the full patch notes are published.
What Else Is Coming In PRIME TIME
Dynamic Commentary is only one piece of what Embark is positioning as one of the biggest updates in the game's history. Here is what has been confirmed so far:
- Infiltrator: A new Light playstyle built around deception, with True Sight, which can see through smoke and reveal disguised enemies, a Mimic Device that lets you disguise yourself as props like barrels, and a Translocator that swaps your position with a marked object.
- Destruction upgrade: Gradual structural failure, with buildings that bend, sag, hinge and swing instead of simply collapsing, plus dynamic debris and reactive smoke and gas.
- Arena reworks: Revamped versions of Monaco, Seoul and Skyway Stadium.
- HUD and UI overhaul: A redesigned interface with HUD scaling, better ultrawide support and a side panel for quick settings.
- Broadcast-style presentation: Reworked match intros and a new Sponsor Journey.
- A new mode: Listed on Embark's roadmap but not fully detailed yet.
The Dynamic Commentary feature fits right in with the broader push toward a more broadcast-like feel. Between new match presentation and a host who knows your name, Embark clearly wants every round to feel like a televised event.
When Season 12 Starts
THE FINALS Season 12: PRIME TIME launches tomorrow (October 20th). The game is free to play on PC through Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S, so it is a good time to jump in if you have been away for a while or have never tried it.
If you have been playing since launch, this could be the season that finally gets your name on the air. Just make sure the play is worth hearing about.
Would you rather hear Scotty hype up your best plays by name, or keep your gamertag off the broadcast?
