Hypergryph's hit tower defense game Arknights is making the jump to the tabletop. Bandai has officially announced that Arknights is the next title coming to its Union Arena trading card game.
The official English Union Arena account revealed the news earlier today (October 19th), teasing that a new title was on the way before confirming Arknights as the latest addition to the lineup.
Release Dates And Pricing
The Union Arena website for North America has already added product pages for the set, and they include a surprising amount of detail for such a fresh announcement. Two products are planned for the Arknights debut:
- Starter Deck Arknights [UE31ST]: Releasing June 11th, 2027, for $11.99. Each starter deck includes a ready-to-play 50-card deck, three Action Point cards, a playsheet, and a Starter Deck Rare Card Promo Pack.
- Special Booster Pack Arknights [UE31BT]: Releasing June 18th, 2027, for $4.99 per pack. Each pack holds 12 cards, with 16 packs per display box, and alt-art cards are included in the set.
Pre-release events for the booster are set to run from June 11th to June 17th, 2027, and cards from the set will be tournament legal from the pre-release date in each region. Bandai notes that product details and images could still change before release, and that specifications may differ in other countries and regions.
Interestingly, the booster is labeled as a Special Booster Pack rather than a standard one. Bandai has not yet explained what that means for the size of the set or its card list, so fans will have to wait for the full reveal to see which Operators make the cut.
What Is Union Arena?
Union Arena is Bandai's crossover trading card game built around licensed anime and game series. Each title gets its own cards and decks, and the lineup has grown to cover a huge range of franchises, including Jujutsu Kaisen, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer, Code Geass, Goddess of Victory: Nikke, and Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation.
Matches are played with 50-card decks, and players spend Action Points and energy to bring characters onto the field, with a Raid mechanic that lets stronger versions of a character evolve from weaker ones. The Action Point cards included in the Arknights Starter Deck are part of that system, which is why each starter comes with three of them alongside the main deck. Starter decks are usually the easiest way for new players to jump in, so pairing one with the first booster gives Arknights fans who are new to the game a simple entry point.
Gacha games have become a bigger part of the lineup lately, with Nikke getting its own Precious Booster Pack and a Special Rare Battle event. Arknights joining the roster continues that trend and gives the game another way to reach fans outside of mobile and PC.
A Big Year For Arknights
First released in 2019 in China and in 2020 worldwide, Arknights has built a loyal following thanks to its strategic tower defense gameplay, striking character designs, and dense storytelling. The franchise has already expanded into anime with the Arknights series from Yostar Pictures, and it has a growing slate of spinoffs including the 3D real-time RPG Arknights: Endfield.
With a cast of hundreds of Operators to pick from, a trading card game feels like a natural fit for the series. Characters like Amiya, Texas, Exusiai, and SilverAsh would all make obvious choices for headline cards, though Bandai has not revealed any of the card art or Operators yet.
Would you rather see the Union Arena Arknights set focus on the original cast of Rhodes Island, or pull in Operators from across the game's newer story chapters?
