God of War is undoubtedly one of the best games of the year, and it already is the best game in the God of War series. Being a reboot of sorts, the game has managed to introduce the series to a new audience while also managing to keep all of its original fanbase by introducing a new gameplay, and keeping all of the series' rich lore intact.

Since the game released back in April of this year, fans of the series—as well as critics and media outlets—have been considering God of War as a strong contender for this year's Game of the Year Awards. Surprising absolutely no one, the Game of the Year Awards revealed the list of nominees and Santa Monica Studios' God of War is one of the titles that was nominated for a number of categories; one being Game of the Year, as expected.

The Game of the Year Awards live show won't stream until the 6th of December, however, but God of War and Santa Monica Studios are already making the news as both studio and game have just won big at this year's Golden Joystick Awards.

God of War managed to win in the categories of Best Storytelling, Best Visual Design, Best Audio, and PlayStation Game of the Year, while Santa Monica Studios won Studio of the year; crossing off the Golden Joystick Awards off the list and now aiming to win some more awards at the Game of the Year Awards taking place in December. Our hats are off to you, Santa Monica Studios and God of War.

His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive…And teach his son to do the same. This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series—satisfying combat; breathtaking scale; and a powerful narrative—and fuses them anew.

God of War is currently available for the PlayStation 4.
