The Developers Of GOD OF WAR Explain Why Kratos Can't Jump In The Upcoming Game

The God of War series used to combine two core mechanics - fighting and exploration, including (usually) simple puzzles and a lot of jumping. The new game doesn't feature a jump button - the devs explain why.

The new God of War is going to be much different than the previous games as Sony Santa Monica wants to make a unique production that will introduce Kratos to the Playstation 4 owners. It's not a reboot and the developers look at the game as a next step in the hero's journey, setting the action in Norse mythology. Kratos will also have to take care of his young son, but it's not the only new feature of the upcoming game.

The developers decided to take the jump button away from the players. In an interview with GameInformer, Cory Barlog explained why Santa Monica made that move: "Literally the first thing Erik Williams talked to me about was "ok than what about the jump. If you want to do something with closer camera, you can't have double jumps all over the place".

Balrog wasn't sure about this decision, but finally approved the new direction, leaving only the narration, exploration and fighting, everything else was destined to be changed. It's time to say goodbye to double jumping Kratos, as the character will definitely stay close to the ground this time.
