Earlier this week, on October 15th, Sony finally unveiled the user interface that their upcoming next-generation console will come equipped with — more on that here. The PlayStation 5 is set to launch in less than a month's time, on October 13th. Fans of the Killzone first-person shooter video game series seem to be convinced that the UI reveal was teasing a new instalment.
First off and most blatantly, the user interface reveal began on the PlayStation 5's login screen. What's the very first image we're greeted with? It's a Helghast trooper. They're the antagonists in the Killzone series, essentially mutated stormtroopers.
But that isn't all there is to the speculation. Take a look at the user's name; Scotty Kenzo. Fans of Killzone were quick to discover that there's actually a character that's a part of the science-fiction series' lore named Sgt. Kenzo Hakhan. They were none other than a Helghast trooper who served during the Vektan Cold War.
While it would be great to see a new instalment in the Killzone series, what with Killzone: Shadow Fall being the most recent and having been a launch title for the PlayStation 4; there are some kinks in this theory. First off, Scotty Kenzo is actually a pseudonym that Sony has used for marketing purposes in past demonstrations.
Secondly, Guerilla Games (the studio responsible for the Killzone series) is obviously dedicated their utmost to the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West. That said, we do know that the studio is also at work on another project, separate from Horizon Forbidden West. Perhaps a new Killzone instalment could be it.
PlayStation 5 is expected to launch on Thursday the 12th of November in the United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea; worldwide release on Thursday the 19th of November.
