In a new interview in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu, Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy VII remake director Tetsuya Nomura has offered an update on the games, confirming that they "still have a way to go" until either title is ready to be released. That's a shame, but it's obviously important that they're both done properly, though it, unfortunately, sounds like they're a really long way off!
Asked about Kingdom Hearts III, he said that "there are still worlds untouched" and that, right now, "production is progressing on unannounced worlds, in a state that we cannot show them off."
Final Fantasy VII meanwhile doesn't sound too much further along, and while Nomura said they are "steadily progressing on production," he went on to apologise by stating "that the wait will be a bit longer for Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy VII Remake." However, he was quick to then assure fans that he "will make a game that will meet your expectations." That's definitely good to hear!
Even better is the fact that there's a chance we'll see both projects showcased at some point in 2017. However, both look set to be released next year due to where they are in the development process.
