Final Fantasy VII is arguably the most popular title in the whole franchise and is one of the many reasons why fans got excited when Square Enix announced—during the 2015 E3, and the PlayStation Experience—that a Remake for the game was in the works. Ever since, the project has been very quiet, making fans think that either the project may have been cancelled or, best case scenario, be released for next generation consoles.

Today we got some new information regarding the project as the Final Fantasy VII director, Tetsuya Nomura, has revealed that the game's remake was announced too early. As reported by Polygon, via Kingdom Hearts Insider, Mr. Nomura offers an update regarding the Final Fantasy VII Remake by simply stating that he's well aware of the game being announced early.

The reason for the game's announcement, though, is a bit unfounded as Nomura reveals that "even in the industry, word was beginning to spread that we were working on the game, so we just decided not to keep it more secret and officially reveal it", which sounds slightly unprofessional since rumours have never hurt a big game release. If anything, a rumour could actually give the game better press than the official game's promotion itself—besides garnering expectation from fans.

There have been a few interesting details revealed for the Final Fantasy VII Remake like Nobuo Uematsu coming back to score the game's music, as well as new information on the Square Enix recruitment page—offering a first unofficial, and unintended, look at the game's Air Buster—which have been able to keep fans somewhat updated on the whole project. While Tetsuya Nomura revealing that they announced the game early isn't quite an update, it is nice to see the man taking responsibility in admitting it was a mistake. That said, Final Fantasy games usually take a long time to make and Square Enix usually deliver when it comes to RPGs, even if they take their long time to develop them—we're looking at you, Kingdom Hearts 3

In Midgar, a city controlled by the mega-conglomerate Shinra Inc., the No. 1 Mako Reactor has been blown up by a rebel group, AVALANCHE. AVALANCHE was secretly formed to wage a rebellion against Shinra Inc., an organisation which is absorbing Mako energy, destroying the natural resources of the planet. Cloud, a former member of Shinra's elite combat force, SOLDIER, was involved with the bombing of the Mako Reactor. Can Cloud and AVALANCHE protect the planet from the huge, formidable enemy, Shinra Inc.?

Final Fantasy 7 Remake still hasn't been given a release date but will be available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One someday.
