In a new interview for the Dengeki PlayStation Magazine, FF VII Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase has revealed that the voice actors for the game (yes, Cloud will have a voice) have nearly completed their work on the project.  "A remake of Final Fantasy VII required substantial preparedness.  The voice actors have almost finished voice recording of the main story. Fans may have the image of the Cloud from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, but since this is the ‘prime’ Cloud from before Advent Children, the performance may feel fresh."

If you haven't kept up with the project, Square Enix is making some pretty big changes from the original PlayStation classic, some of which have caused quite a bit of controversy among the purist crowd.  Here are the biggest changes that have been revealed to date:
  • The biggest difference is obviously that fact that the FF VII Remake will be released in Episodes.  It's currently unknown just how many installments will make up the total story from the original game.
  • The game is being built using the Unreal Engine 4, the same engine used for Gears of War 3.
  • Turn-based combat is being swapped for a real-time system similar to what's used in the Kingdom Hearts franchise.
  • Director Tetsuya Nomura and Kitase have gone on record to confirm that the original story is changing as the multi-part release structure of the project allows them to go "deeper" and create surprises for longtime fans that may feel like they already know everything there is to know about the game.
  • The game is being released on the PS4 first as a "timed-exclusive" and will be released on Xbox One and (probably) PC at a later date.
