From personal experience, remakes of games have been just okay. It isn't that those games weren't worth remastering, it was more of the game being familiar. It could also be that some of the games that were remastered felt thrown together and half done when the developers released it. There also is a level of familiarity and accomplishment that come with a game that is remastered. Yes, the graphics are awesome, but in most cases its the only purchasing point for a remastered game. This isn't the case for Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Not all remastered games are equal and that is obvious. For example, The Master Chief Collection that was launched earlier this year was mediocre at best. So what is the difference between the two? Replay-ability and game type. Here is why, Final Fantasy VII is an all time video game classic with an awesome story. Personally there are only a few games that have been kept around to play over and over... two of them are Final Fantasy Games. Final Fantasy VII is the Lord of the Rings of the video game world. Shooter games don't make for a great remakes. The PVP is always thrown together and isn't done very well. Most shooter games are also played for the multiplayer and not the campaign.
Square Enix is doing the right thing and actually taking their time in making this the best remake of all time. The most disappointing fact, however, is the game will only be launched on the Playstation 4. Many Xbox Fans might make a purchase for this one.
