Back in November, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced they won't be hosting their annual E3 conference this year, breaking the expo's 24-year tradition and hearts of many players. While some members of the PlayStation community still can't understand why exactly Sony is skipping the event, there is at least one company that will try to use this extra opportunity to "win" the show - Microsoft.
While speaking with GamingBolt, analyst Michael Pachter commented on Sony's decision and said “I think they made a bad decision. I think they somehow internally determined that the money’s not well spent- and they’re wrong. I don’t know what they spend on E3, but even if it’s $15 million, they get $15 million of publicity out of it. So I think they’re fools to bypass the show. And they’ll be back.”
Pachter also used the occasion to share his take on Sony's lackluster E3 2018 media briefing by saying "they had that stupid walk-through that nobody understood, and it just wasn’t fun. And I think they probably spent a ton on that,” the analyst said. “And they’re very much guys who don’t acknowledge that they did anything wrong, so they just take their ball and go home, because it didn’t work well.”
Although Sony will be skipping this year's E3, Microsoft, Nintendo of America, Activision, Bethesda Softworks, Capcom, Epic Games, Konami Digital Entertainment, Square Enix, Take-Two Interactive Software, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have already confirmed their presence during E3 2019, that will be held June 11-13 in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
