Wizards of the Coast has officially revealed a big batch of cards from the Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond crossover with Star Trek, the set that will close out the card game's year. It pulls from almost every era of the franchise, and it arrives just in time for the series' 60th anniversary.
The set's debut stream showed off captains, crew members, starships and some very deep cuts for longtime Trekkies, along with a handful of new mechanics built around the show's most famous ideas.
New Star Trek Mechanics
The headline mechanic is Beam Me Up, a new way to recur cards from the graveyard. It lets players cast spells from their graveyard by returning creatures they control to their hand, which should open the door for some fun value engines in both Limited and Commander.
Several cards also carry a new Strange New Worlds ability, which rewards players for controlling a variety of lands with different names. The set also leans heavily on Spacecraft artifacts, the card type that first showed up in the sci-fi Edge of Eternities set, giving the Enterprise and plenty of other famous ships their own cards.
Saga cards are being used to retell specific episodes, with fan favorites like In the Pale Moonlight and The City on the Edge of Forever getting the treatment. Characters such as Mr. Spock, Seven of Nine, Data, Q and Captain Kathryn Janeway are all part of the set.
Four Star Trek Commander Decks
The Star Trek set launches with four ready-to-play 100-card Commander decks, each with 32 new-to-Magic cards:
- Federation Fleet (Blue-Red-White), led by Jean-Luc Picard, Luminary
- Landing Party (Green-White-Blue), led by Commander Spock
- Klingon Fury (Red-White-Black), led by Worf, Defiant Commander
- We Are the Borg (White-Blue-Black), led by The Borg Queen
Regular Commander decks are priced at $74.99, while Collector's Edition versions with every card in surge foil come in at $159.99. Wizards says the full decklists for each deck will be revealed later.
Signed Cards, LCARS Lands And Klingon Script
The set's collector side is packed. The biggest chase cards are seven signed headliner cards, each physically signed by a Star Trek actor and randomly inserted into Collector Boosters. Wizards says there are fewer than 250 copies of each one, with characters like Captain James T. Kirk, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Captain Kathryn Janeway, Data, Seven of Nine and Geordi La Forge among them.
Competitive players will want to keep an eye on the LCARS shock lands. All 10 shock lands appear in the set with a frame based on the Enterprise's onboard computer system, along with artwork of planets visited in the series.
Other treatments include Classic Enterprise cards inspired by vintage Star Trek movie posters, borderless scene cards that link together to recreate moments like the Data and Locutus showdown and the Mirror, Mirror episode, and Klingon frame cards. Some of those Klingon cards even come in a Klingon script version, written entirely in the Klingon language.
There are also 30 stardates cards, which take famous Magic reprints like Sheoldred, the Apocalypse and Kenrith, the Returned King and reimagine them in the Star Trek universe.
Release Date And Prices
Prerelease events run from November 6 to 12, the set hits MTG Arena on November 10, and the global tabletop release follows on November 13, 2026. Play Boosters are $6.99, Collector Boosters are $37.99, Bundles are $69.99 and the new Beam Me Up Bundle, which includes a Collector Booster and two Spacecraft promo cards, is $99.99.
Star Trek wraps up a big year of crossovers for Magic, following Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a Marvel Super Heroes expansion and a return to Middle-earth with The Hobbit. Wizards will release the full card image gallery on November 30.
The release also lines up with MagicCon: Atlanta and World Championship 32, which both run from November 13 to 15, so expect plenty of Star Trek on the big stage that weekend. Commander Party events tied to the set follow later in November and December, giving Commander players a reason to bring their new decks to their local game store.
For players who skip the Commander decks, five monocolor Welcome Decks will also be available, each built with cards from the main set and the Commander decks to help newer players get started.
