Blizzard is finally addressing one of the most common complaints about Diablo 4 Season 15. The studio has shared patch notes for an upcoming update that raises the stack size of Prime Evil Splinters from 1 all the way to 99, which should free up a lot of inventory space for players working through Season of Hell's Legacy.
The update, version 3.2.4, is set to go live on October 28. It is a small patch overall, but it fixes an issue players have been vocal about since the season began.
What Changes In The October 28 Diablo 4 Patch
Blizzard's patch notes for the update are short and to the point:
- The stack size for Prime Evil Splinters increased from 1 to 99.
- Various stability, visual and UI improvements.
Until now, every Splinter took up its own inventory slot. Since players can pick them up regularly during the season, bags were filling up fast, and plenty of players assumed the lack of stacking was a bug. The patch notes make it clear it was simply how the item was set up, and the fix is a big quality of life upgrade for anyone farming them.
How Splinters Of Evil Work In Season 15
Season of Hell's Legacy is the centerpiece of Diablo's 30th anniversary celebration, and Splinters of Evil are at the heart of it. The seasonal questline has players collect three Splinters by defeating echoes of the Prime Evils in iconic locations, with Diablo beneath Tristram Cathedral, Baal at the Arreat Summit and Mephisto in the Durance of Hate.
Players can only bear one Splinter at a time. Each one grants an Iconic Power tied to its Prime Evil, with Diablo bringing Fire, Baal bringing Cold and Mephisto bringing Physical damage, but it also makes the player more vulnerable to that same Prime Evil.
Each Splinter also has its own reputation track that changes how endgame activities play out:
- Terror modifies Helltides and Infernal Hordes.
- Destruction modifies the Undercity and Lair Bosses.
- Hatred modifies the Pit and Nightmare Dungeons.
- All three affect the Tree of Whispers.
To swap to a different Splinter, players need to get another one, and the largest source is Waking Nightmares, the new seasonal activity that recreates famous moments from past Diablo games in Diablo 4's engine, including the Den of Evil. Splinters also drop from Prime Evil Echoes during Helltides and from Capstone Dungeons.
Players have also been holding onto extra Splinters for crafting. Community guides say combining one of each in the Horadric Cube creates Wirt's Lucky Coin, which opens the Echo of Tristram at Tristram's Fountain for a fight against all three Prime Evils and a shot at the Hellfire Torch Mythic charm. With a stack size of 1, keeping spares on hand for that grind was a pain.
Players Are Happy, But Many Wish It Came Sooner
The change has been well received, though a lot of players feel it should have been in the game from the start. The reaction from the community has been a mix of relief and frustration, with some players saying they had already stepped away from the season because of how tedious the Splinter grind had become. Others are hoping Blizzard will boost Splinter drop rates next.
This is not the first time Blizzard has had to smooth things over this season. Season 15 had a rough start, with a short delay and several launch issues that made it hard for players to jump in. Blizzard sent players a free Resplendent Spark, one of the rarest crafting materials in the game, through the in-game Horadric Post as an apology.
A Big Season For Diablo Fans
Outside of the Splinter issue, Season 15 has been a hit with longtime fans. Along with the return of the three Prime Evils and Deckard Cain, the season brings back legacy uniques like the Stone of Jordan and Leoric's Crown, and the Waking Nightmares give players a chance to revisit some of the franchise's most memorable moments.
The season also follows a huge BlizzCon for the series, where Blizzard officially revealed Diablo 5.
Diablo 4 update 3.2.4 goes live on October 28 across all platforms.
