Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? is heading back to phones and PCs. Japanese developer enish announced yesterday that it is making DanMachi: Frontier Zero, a new game based on the fantasy light novel series, with release planned for 2027.
The headline feature is a brand-new main story created in cooperation with series author Fujino Omori, telling events that haven't been depicted in the novels or the anime.
What We Know About DanMachi: Frontier Zero
enish's press release and the franchise's official site describe Frontier Zero as a completely new DanMachi game. The full Japanese title is Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka Frontier Zero, and the official account uses the shorthand "DanZero."
Here are the confirmed details so far:
- Developer: enish
- Platforms: iOS, Android and PC
- Release window: 2027
- Regions: Japan and overseas
- Story: a game-original main story made with Fujino Omori's cooperation
The overseas plans stand out. Many DanMachi games have stayed in Japan or arrived in the West much later, so a release planned for both Japan and overseas from the start is good news for international fans.
No Gameplay Yet
What enish hasn't shared yet is just as important. There's no genre, no gameplay footage, no character list and no word on how the game will be monetized. Given the mobile platforms, a free-to-play model with character pulls would be the safe guess, but that's speculation until enish shows more.
enish's press release frames the project as the start of "a DanMachi story nobody knows yet," which suggests the studio is leaning hard on the new scenario as the main hook. That would make sense for a live-service game, since an original story gives the developer room to keep adding chapters without running out of source material.
The developer launched an official X account for the game alongside the announcement and says it will share more information there. Fans who want updates early can follow it now.
A Fresh Start For DanMachi Games
DanMachi has had a mixed history in gaming. The long-running mobile RPG DanMachi: Memoria Freese was the franchise's biggest game for years, while DanMachi Battle Chronicle ended service in September 2025. On consoles, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Infinite Combate brought the series to PlayStation 4, Switch and PC in 2020.
Frontier Zero's original story is the obvious selling point compared with those earlier projects. Rather than replaying arcs fans already know from the books and anime, it promises something new written with the creator's involvement.
Who Is enish?
enish is a Tokyo-based mobile game developer and publisher founded in 2009. The company focuses on planning, developing and operating game apps, and its stated mission is to create enish fans around the world. Frontier Zero's multiplatform plan and overseas release fit that goal, and a recognizable license like DanMachi gives the studio a strong international brand to build on.
Perfect Timing For The Franchise
The announcement also lands during a busy stretch for the series. The light novels have passed 20 million copies in circulation, and a sixth anime season was announced earlier this year at the franchise's 10th anniversary event. The fifth season, DanMachi V, adapted the Goddess of Fertility arc and premiered in October 2024.
With the anime still going strong, a new game with Omori's input could be a big draw for players who have followed Bell Cranel and the Hestia Familia through the dungeon for more than a decade.
Would you rather Frontier Zero be a gacha RPG like Memoria Freese, or a full action game in the style of Infinite Combate?
