CBS Studios has revealed the first voice cast members for the upcoming Among Us animated series. For a series based on a game that doesn't involve much -- if any -- story, there's some incredible talent lined up for the series.
For anyone who played the game, you already know the characters in Among Us don't really have names. Instead, they are identified by their colors. Fittingly, that's how the cast was revealed as well.
The first wave of actors revealed for the series include Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us, Blindspot) as Purple, Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Wilford) as Green, Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat, Always Be My Maybe) as Red, and Yvette Nicole Brown (Community, The Odd Couple) as Orange.
Character descriptions reveal the roles of each character as well as some personality traits and a fun fact.
Randall Park's Red, for example, is Captain of The Skeld. He's a "people-pleaser" and "blowhard" and his fun fact is that he "failed upwards." Ashley Johnson's Purple is Chief of Security and her sense of safety, suspicion and sarcasm also result in her having trust issues, naturally. Yvette Nicole Brown's Orange is the ship's HR and she's a "spineless corporate shill." Elijah Wood's Green is an unpaid intern who's just "happy to be there."
The Among Us animated series was first announced last summer. Based on the online multiplayer social deduction game, which launched in 2018 but didn't rise to massive popularity until the COVID pandemic lockdowns, the series follows the same premise.
The official logline for the show, which draws from the plot of the video game, states:
“Members of your crew have been replaced by an alien shapeshifter intent on causing confusion, sabotaging the ship, and killing everyone. Root out the ‘Impostor’ or fall victim to its murderous designs.”
Among Us developer Inntersloth shared our first look at the series back in January. The teaser artwork revealed the ship's cafeteria with abandoned pizza and balloons along with a blood-soaked banner that reads "We're Dead!"
CBS Eye Animation Productions is partnering with Innersloth, the game's developer, on the series. Owen Dennis (Infinity Train) is serving as creator and executive producer on the series. Titmouse (Big Mouth, Star Trek: Lower Decks) is doing the animation for the series.
No release date has been announced yet.
