Netflix has announced an animated series based on, the popular Studio MDHR video game,
Cuphead (via
Toonado). This indie game quickly grew in popularity following its release in the latter half of 2017. The game features a hand-drawn art style based on cartoons of the 1930s and it's said that the animated series will share that style.
The Netflix series will be titled
The Cuphead Show! and revolve around the characters of Cuphead and, his brother, Mugman. The animated series will apparently expand upon the characters and world that were introduced in the popular video game.
Netflix tweet out some promotional artwork for the series, which you can check out below:
“The game that has won the hearts and minds of fans with its gorgeous retro hand-animated style, crazy boss-brawls, and challenging gameplay will come to life on television for the first time ever in The Cuphead Show! The new series will expand on the characters and world of Cuphead, with an animation style inspired by the classic Fleischer cartoons from the 1930s," Netflix stated in their
press release.
King Features Syndicate will be making the animated series along with Netflix Animation. Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, the founders of the studio behind the video game, will serve as executive producers on
The Cuphead Show! along with CJ Kettler of King Features. Dave Wasson will produce, Cosmo Segurson is attached as a co-executive producer.
