As part of YouTube's ambition to become a premium streaming platform that can rival the likes of Netflix and Hulu, they're launching YouTube Red, a subscription service with premium content from individuals like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and director Doug Liman. They also have a project in the works with Dan Harmon, who was most recently in the news for his contribution to the Doctor Strange script.
The series will see Harmon team with
the Game Grumps [3.6 million subscribers], to produce an eSports sitcom. You can watch the Grumps discuss the project themselves in the video below.
The show currently doesn't have a name but it will consist of six episodes and will focus on 6 distinct players who come together to form a new eSports team attempting to make a living off of the competitive gaming. Think HBO's Silicon Valley, but instead of trying to create a new app or revolutionary software, the team is playing hours and hours of first-person shooters in order to win prizes in video game tournaments. The show is expected to debut some time in 2017.
