Netflix recently announced that they will be collaborating with Studio MDHR and King Features Syndicate on a series named
The Cuphead Show!. This will be an animated show based on the similarly titled, popular indie game:
Cuphead.
Yesterday's announcement revealed that the upcoming show will explore the characters and world of the indie game from 2017. The creators of
Cuphead, Jared and Chad Moldenhauer, will executive produce
The Cuphead Show!.
The
Cuphead game features an iconic hand-drawn art style, that's based on cartoons of the 1930s, which many are expecting to be carried over into the Netflix show. One of the afformentioned executive producers recently discussed (via
Toonado) whether
The Cuphead Show! will indeed feature that iconic art style.
"Right now we aren't sharing any specific details on the show's visual style."
While Moldenhauer didn't explicitly confirm the art style, he did say that they're going to avoid computer-assisted animation at all costs.
"With that said, we're keen to stay as far away from computer-assisted puppeteer animation as possible and are proud to be working with a creative team that really believes in the value of hand animation."
