Netflix's live-action
The Witcher series will be available to stream in less than a month's time. Henry Cavill (
Mission: Impossible — Fallout) stars as the titular character A.K.A. Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra (
Wanderlust) plays Yennefer, and Freya Allan (
Into the Badlands) plays Ciri. Lauren S. Hissrich serves as showrunner.
Executive producer Tomek Bagiński recently participated in an interview with
IGN Poland in which he was asked whether he would like to see
The Witcher venture into the realm of animation. Bagiński was rather coy with his response, seemingly teasing that something of the sort might already be in the works or is at least being considered.
"I don't want to reveal too much here," said Bagiński.
"But who knows if we won't see the Witcher in such a style. However, these are things that I would prefer not to talk too much about."
Recently, the showrunner of the Netflix series revealed that up to seven seasons have been mapped out and that The Witcher could feasibly go on for twenty years —
more on that here. Perhaps if the Netflix series turns out to not be the hit they're hoping for, the mapped out material could be adapted into an animated series.
The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
The Witcher will be available to stream on Netflix from December 20th, 2019.
