Yesterday, an exciting trailer for Netflix's upcoming, live-action
The Witcher series was released. Finally, we found out when the show will arrive on the popular streaming service — its release date being December 20th.
Like the best-selling fantasy books by Andrzej Sapkowski and the acclaimed video games by CD Projekt Red, the Netflix series follows a monster hunter by the name of Geralt of Rivia as he struggles to find his place in a vicious world — there's an official synopsis that you can check out below.
The Netflix series stars Henry Cavill (
Mission: Impossible — Fallout) as the titular character, Anya Chalotra (
Wanderlust) as Yennefer, and Freya Allan (
Into the Badlands) as Ciri. Lauren S. Hissrich serves as its showrunner.
During a recent interview with
GamesRadar, the showrunner revealed that she has already formed plans for six more seasons of the Netflix series beyond the upcoming first season.
“I’ve [mapped out stories] for seven seasons. Right now it’s just about, ‘how do you set up stories that really capture audiences for years at a time?' The worst thing we could do is put all of our energies just into season one, and not be thinking about where these characters can grow to," said Hissrich.
Of course, these plans are likely to be changed around a bit and aren't certainly set in stone. Here's hoping that
The Witcher will be great and well-received, Hissrich certainly seems confident that it will be, because otherwise it would be a little awkward to have many more seasons mapped out. We'll just have to wait until December 20th to find out.
The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
The Witcher arrive on Netflix on December 20th, 2019.
