After leading off the Xbox Games Showcase with Halo: Infinite campaign footage, Microsoft needed to close the digital event with something big. Indeed, they did. Officially announced was Fable, a new entry in the acclaimed action role-player franchise.
The game was announced with a very brief, minute-long trailer that follows a fairy flying throug a fantastical forest. As she stops to appreciate a flower, she is suddently snatched by a frog and eaten. And that's all that was needed to get fans excited.
Fable 3 was the last major release in the franchise back in 2010 although there have been various spinoffs since then. Reports that Playground Games, the studio behind the Forza Horizon series, was working on a new Fable game emerged in 2018 and were seemingly confirmed by Phil Spencer at E3 that year. Turns out those reports were true.
Fable is in development by Playground Games and being billed as "a new beginning for the legendary franchise." It's far too early for any official description, but the studio teases "a land of fantastical creatures and wondrous places," whic was reaffirmed by the trailer.
Fable is being developed for Xbox Series X and PC. There is no release date as of yet, but it as a first-party game, it will be available via Xbox Game Pass at launch.
