Microsoft officially announced the acquisitions of Obsidian and inXile Entertainment during the recent X018 event in Mexico City. While inXile is a smaller (and definitely lesser-known) development team than Obsidian, the studio's founder Brian Fargo think that being under the Microsoft umbrella will allow them reach new heights, as the developer doesn’t have to rely on crowdfunding anymore.
According to Fargo, inXile is working on yet unannounced project that Microsoft is “quite keen on”. Unfortunately, the producer hasn't revealed if it's a next-gen title that will launch for the next Xbox One (codenamed Scarlett) and obviously PC. We may wait to see that title for quite some time, as inXile is working hard on Westland 3 that is scheduled to release at some point next year for Xbox One and PC.
To produce those titles at the same time, inXile is looking to increase its studio size by 30 percent in the coming days. “In the short-term we talk about increasing it 30 per cent or so. We’re not trying to become multi-hundred-person teams but just filling the holes we’ve been desperately wanting to: having a full-time audio person, having a full-time lighting person, having a cinematics person – these things that could help us improve what we’re doing,” Fargo said in an interview with Eurogamer.
