ALAN WAKE Is Going To Be Adapted Into A Live-Action TV Series By LEGION Creative Peter Calloway

Remedy Entertainment have teamed up Contradiction Films and are in the process of adapting their 2010 Xbox 360 title Alan Wake into a live-action TV series. Hit the jump to find out more...

Remedy Entertainment, who have since moved on to such cinematic titles as Quantum Break and the upcoming mind-bender Control, are behind 2010's Alan Wake. The action-horror title was unique amongst games of the time as it made use of a TV-esque format. And now, fittingly, it's going to be the basis of an upcoming live-action series.

A recent report by Variety reveals that Remedy have teamed up with Contradiction Films to develop the TV series. Peter Calloway, a creative behind the likes of Cloak & Dagger and Legion, will be heading the show as both its showrunner and writer. The Alan Wake game's director Sam Lake is attached to the project as an executive producer.

Here's what Lake had to say on how they'll go about adapting the game's narrative: “The story of the original game is our starting point, the seed which will grow into the bigger story we’re exploring in the show. We’ll be expanding the lore of this crazy and dark universe and diving deeper into certain aspects of it than the game ever did.”

Not only are the creatives of the original title playing a major part in adapting it; Contradiction Films' partner Tomas Harlan made it clear that his mission is to ensure the property is handled appropriately and with care. “‘Alan Wake’ was basically a TV series that was put into a game,” Harlan told Variety. “That was Sam’s vision. It was influenced by ‘The Twilight Zone,’ ‘Secret Window,’ Hitchcock, ‘Northern Exposure,’ a lot of U.S. television,” he said. “We plan to work closely with Sam on our this show. Sam is a huge part of this. This is his baby.”

Harlan's efforts are what convinced Remedy to take the leap with such a project, as they were initially opposed to it - which is understandable given previous endeavours to adapt video games into any other medium.

Were you a fan of Alan Wake back in the day? What do you think of the prospect of it becoming a TV series?

Alan Wake is available now on Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
