Michael Condrey is a developer who has worked on multiple instalments in the
Call of Duty series - those being
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and
Call of Duty: WWII. Formerly, Condrey was the head of Sledgehammer games. He recently made some claims about the publisher of the popular first-person shooter franchise.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the next instalment in the franchise, came up during an interview with Condrey. The interviewer explained that they were made privy to some footage of the upcoming game and described it as
"pretty disturbing." This is in line with what we've heard about the
Modern Warfare reboot thus far.
Developers of the upcoming game have mentioned that the game will be a realistic representation of actual modern warfare. Also, reputable reports have stated that it's
essentially inspired by the controversy that
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's "No Russian" mission caused.
Condrey said that Infinity Ward, the developers of
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, are being pushed by Acitvision to make their upcoming game darker and more controversial in order to elicit headlines and publicity.
"I maintain that video games are the most important art form of our time. I respect every developer who strives to deliver their work as an extension or reflection of their artistic vision. That said, MW seems like a tough challenge for any studio, especially if they are being pushed by publishing to be more controversial and 'darker' for the sake of headlines."
Now, Infinity Ward have mentioned in the past that the upcoming instalment will be wholly their creative vision. However, it isn't like the studio are going to outright state that they're being pressured by their publisher.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to release on October 25th for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
