Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be releasing for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in a month's time. Ahead of its release, Activision and Infinity Ward set up a couple of early access weekends to test out the grounded multiplayer gameplay.
The beta consisted of two weekends, the first was exclusive to the PlayStation 4 but the second allowed for all platforms to join in. At that, it allowed all platforms to play amongst each other with the use of cross-play. Similarly, the beta (and most likely the final game itself) allowed for cross-platform progression —
find out more on that here.
The beta was a huge success — having consistently trended on Twitter for the entire duration of both weekends it was active. The success was recently atested to by Activision (via
Gamespot). Apparently, more players participated in the
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta than any prior
Call of Duty betas. Similarly, players apparently logged more hours in-game than for any prior beta.
This is all impressive for sure and players are clearly enthusiastic about the return of traditional first-person shooter gameplay (without double jumps and wall-running) but the exact numbers and statistics unfortunately haven't been divulged so we're just going to have to take Activision's word for it.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 25th, 2019.
