Even prior to
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's release, there were rumours that the latest instalment in the long-running first-person shooter franchise would feature a battle-royale mode. However, those claims mostly died down once the game debuted and there wasn't a battle-royale mode to be seen.
However, the talk of a battle royale kicked off once again when a seemingly official image leaked online — featuring the title
"Call of Duty: Warzone." Since then, more leaks and rumours have emerged to do with the supposedly upcoming mode. Reputable insiders have said that it will be playable very soon.
It's said that the battle royale will be a mode within
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare itself but also be available as its own seperate entity — and be totally free-to-play. Most recently, a report claimed that
Warzone will see the light of day on March 10th —
find out more on that here.
This has all emerged following the initial leak by a Reddit user by the handle of Assyrian2410. They posted and image to the /r/ModernWarfare subreddit, titled
“I found this image online, not sure what it is," and the rest is history. It seems that this has really rubbed Activision the wrong way.
Activision has filed a DMCA subpoena against Reddit in order to get information about Assyrian2410. How successful they will be in that is uncertain given that the user promptly deleted their post and account shortly after the all-important image caught eyes. All in all, this only serves as more evidence that the leak was legitimate and that
Warzone is indeed on the way.
