Again and again, Infinity Ward are reiterating that
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be the most starkly realistic instalment in the first-person shooter series there has ever been. Rather than the bombastic and futuristic elements of previous instalments, everything that happens within
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare could be something you'd see on the news in real life.
We know that the player will be reprimanded if they misbehave and step beyond their line of duty, however, if you were to teeter on the line the game will adapt to your actions rather than kick you out of the mission. An example of that which previously came up involved the player shooting a woman who appeared to be reaching for a weapon when, in fact, she was actually reaching for a baby.
According to the director of gameplay on the new instalment, Jacob Minkoff, the game's dialogue will change depending on your actions during a mission. Should you do something particularly shocking and unexpected, whether that be positive or negative, your comrades will comment on it.
“The story itself is linear, but in the context of the mission, if you go up to the line but you don’t cross it, what you will end up with is characters saying things like, ‘Dude, what did you just do? God damn it. I hope nobody hears about this,'" Minkoff told
Kotaku.
"If you are taking an action that is over the line but understandable, your dialogue with your allies will branch. In some cases, their performances will branch, and they will call you out on it, and there will be other animated captured performances.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to release on October 25th for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
