Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be a reboot of the
Modern Warfare subseries and in line with that it will be bringing in an innovation that wasn't present in the previous incarnation of the series.
The upcoming instalment in the first-person-shooter series will feature bullet penetration of varying degrees. The clarify, bullet penetration refers to the player being able to shoot through walls, doors, and the like. Enemies, both players on the other team in multiplayer and non-playable characters in the campaign, will be able to do the same.
Some materials will react to being shot through differently. There will of course be materials, like concrete, which are impenetrable. However, materials like carboard and wood will be succeptible to bullet penetration. Jacob Minkoff, Infinity Ward's campaign gameplay director, recently explained the innovation with
PCGamesN.
It's said that
“There are certain types of materials you will be able to break through," and that there will be some sort of levolution as it appears that wooden doors will be able to be entirely broken apart by bullets:
“There are doors that you can’t shoot apart too, so we had to go and design a visual language for the doors that you can and can’t destroy," added art director Joel Emslie.
"I would say one of the best parts of the experience is the bullet penetration. Just looking at soft cover and knowing that if you can shoot through it, so can your enemy – it’s a nice part of gameplay.”
If you're wielding a light-machine gun, you're be able to inflict more damage upon enemies by shooting through walls than if you were using a sub-machine gun for example. Essentially, every gun and solid material will have different penetration values.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to release on October 25th for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
