It seems that the next instalment in the long-running
Call of Duty franchise will be:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Yes, you read that right, no number or anything.
This info comes from at least one credible source: Kotaku's Jason Schreier. A YouTuber by the name of LongSensation revealed the information via his Twitter (
@LongSensationYT) before being promptly backed up by Schreier (
@jasonscreier).
You can check out both tweets below:
Now, you're of course wondering, who in their right mind came up with this ingenius decision and why have they not already been awarded the Nobel Prize? Both of the afformentioned leakers made note of how absurd the choice of title is, Schreier specifically making note that 2007's classic was actually, specifically titled:
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
It would've been confusing enough, given that we all expected 2019's instalment to be titled
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, but Activision and/or Infinity Ward have decided to drop the number entirely, which by no means makes it any less confusing. To add to this, just two years ago
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered was released and that title didn't feature the all important
"4" which Schreier made note of.
It is worth noting that the above tweets aren't official and thus there's a chance they aren't correct anyway. We'll most likely be finding out whether this is legitimately going to be the title at next month's E3 event or even some time before then. But if it is legit, our heart goes out to all those kids whose parents are going to buy them
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Christmas this year.
