"What the hell kind of name is "Soap", eh?"
John "Soap" MacTavish was the player character in
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. In the latter two games within the subseries, Soap is downgraded to a non-playable character, barring a few missions here and there.
In
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Soap is killed in action following massive explosion and amount blood loss during an almost successful mission to assassinate Makarov (the series' antagonist). Having died, you'd expect that to be the last we see of Soap.
Well, with the Infinity Ward's next
Modern Warfare instalment being somewhat of a reboot of the subseries, Soap has reportedly been resurrected.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was revealed to the world just yesterday with
an exciting, new trailer. In it, we see a realistic world fraught with terrorist attacks as well as the return of Captain Price.
According to a report by
Polygon, Captain Price isn't the only iconic character who will be making a return in the upcoming title.
Soap will be reimagined, much like Captain Price, and apparently have a somewhat substantial role. This is in line with Price mentioning
"some old comrades," at the end of the below trailer. Perhaps we'll even see some other members of Task Force 141 make a return, like Ghost or Nikolai.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to release on October 25th for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
