As predicted, Microsoft announced two new major
Gears of War games at E3 2018, and both of them are coming out in the next few years.
Gears Tactics is a Windows 10 exclusive strategy game similar to the
XCOM series, and the other one,
Gears 5 is a PC and Xbox One title that will continue the story of Marcus Michael Fenix, Kait Diaz, and surviving in the ruined world in the post-Locust War era.
Last week, The Coalition Studio Manager Rod Fergusson appeared in a live streamed interview during the X018 fan fest in Mexico City and revealed some juicy details on the highly anticipated
Gears of War 4 sequel. "
Gears 5 is about bringing The Coalition’s personality to the game," Fergusson explained. "
You’re going to see a bunch of innovations, a bunch of changes, a bunch of things that are really exciting and different but still feel like Gears of War."
"
We focus on contrast, ‘dramatic contrast’ is the wording we use. We wanted to have part of Gears 5 as dramatic contrast, like going from very small, cramped spaces to very large open spaces or like going from the desert to frozen tundra. We wanted to have, through the experience, constant contrast and dramatic change. For the first time in Gears 5, we’re doing performance capture. All the previous games had separate voice from motion capture with different actors doing it," the studio manager continued.
Unlike the previous games in the acclaimed series, we will play as Kait, who was introduced in
Gears of War 4. According to Fergusson, "
it was a really natural decision. When we went back and we looked at what the story of Gears of War 4 was, like with Mad Max Fury Road, that movie is really about Furiosa’s story and Mad Max is helping her complete her story and Gears of War 4’s story is really Kait trying to save her mom and JD Fenix is helping her. When we looked at the story for Gears 5, we were sort of delving into Kait’s past and her history, her family ties to the locusts, we felt like that’s a better story to not just witness but tell from her perspective."
Gears 5 sees Kait taking front-and-center as the series' first female protagonist, as the game will support online co-op and local split-screen for two players. Xbox One X and Windows 10 users will have a chance to experience 4K resolution with stunning HDR at a smooth 60 frames per second. According to the most recent reports,
Gears 5 might be launched in October 2019, three years after
Gears 4.
In Gears 5 as Kait, journey across the biggest, most beautiful Gears world ever created. Play solo or with a friend in local split-screen co-op, or online co-op and experience every mode in 4K Ultra HD resolution with stunning HDR at a smooth 60 frames per second.
Gears 5 is coming in 2019.
