While BioWare is currently focused on finishing
Anthem and working on
Dragon Age 4, the studio doesn't forget about fans of its most famous brand –
Mass Effect – at least according to Executive Producer Mark Darrah. Considering that the latest entry in the RPG series,
Mass Effect Andromeda, debuted back in 2017 to lackluster sales and mixed critical reception, that's definitely good news.
“
We’re definitely not done with Mass Effect. There’s a lot of stories to be told. We could pull on the threads we put down with Andromeda; we could pull on threads from Mass Effect 3. There’s a lot of interesting space to be explored," Derrah said in an interview with Polygon. “
In my mind, it’s very much alive,” BioWare's General Manager Casey Hudson added. “
I’m thinking all the time about things that I think will be great. It’s just a matter of getting back to it as soon as we can.”
Hudson, the project director of
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the
Mass Effect trilogy, returned to BioWare nearly two years ago after the sudden departure of General Manager Aaryn Flynn.
The manager also teased the future for the
Mass Effect universe in a promotional video for 2018's N7 Day back in November. The Twitter video showcased Hudson and other BioWare employees answering a simple question - what
Mass Effect really meant to them. According to Hudson himself, "
it means coming into the studio every day, dreaming about what the next great Mass Effect game will be."
The fact that BioWare's next big thing, online-oriented
Anthem, has already gone gold, could possibly mean that the acclaimed studio may finally focus on
Dragon Age 4 and a sequel to
Andromeda.
