The Xbox 360 continues to sell well, even after being on the market for almost six years. Xbox Live director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb revealed via Twitter last week that the Xbox 360 has now surpassed 57 million systems sold worldwide.
"Just saw a new sales figure that I though you would like: Xbox 360 has sold more than 57 million units worldwide" tweeted Hryb on November 4th
With the holiday season looming, Microsoft is planning on adding to that figure with various hardware bundles, including a Gears of War 3 bundle, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 bundle, and a R2-D2-styled console that will be released for the upcoming Star Wars Kinect. There are even a couple of holiday bundles being released including one with two games for $299 and two games and a Kinect for $399.
The most recent numbers from Microsoft puts the Xbox 360 slightly ahead of the PlayStation 3, with Sony reporting lifetime sales through September 30 of 55.5 million units worldwide. Nintendo sits ahead of both system with its end-of-September financials placing the Wii at 89 million units sold worldwide.
With that, let the console flaming begin...
