The new system update for Microsoft's Xbox 360 console began rolling out yesterday and it includes a few enhancements that are a little bit of a surprise. Chief among these is new PayPal functionality.

Once you’ve linked your PayPal account to your Xbox LIVE account on Xbox.com, you’ll be off and running to use it as a billing option, allowing you to buy content such as Microsoft Points, Xbox LIVE Gold subscriptions and Games on Demand titles.

Also included in the update are standby mode and updated Xbox 360 disc format capability. The new disc format apparently adss additional storage space to Xbox 360 discs, which according to some reports is as high as another 1GB of space to the dual layer disc capabilities.

The auto-standby feature that will place your console on standby if it's idle for more than one hour. This will help to reduce power consumption when it's not being used. Note that this feature will be automatically enabled after you download the update. You can modify the setting at any time via the System Settings on your console.
