Just a day after its indie-focused ID@Xbox stream, Microsoft has announced its big summer showcase. The annual Xbox Games Showcase will one again return this year, with Microsoft confirming it will be livestreamed on June 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. PT / 1:00 p.m. ET.
Microsoft has previously alluded to the Xbox Showcase back in February, confirming that we'll see updates for some of this year's biggest releases, including Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Avowed, Ara: History Untold, Towerborne, and more.
While today's post didn't mention any additional games, Microsoft did confirm that the showcase will highlight games from across its studios, including Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda, and Xbox Game Studios.
We can probably expect news on Starfield's expansion, Shattered Space, and perhaps some updates on World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch, as well as a few surprises. Many will probably tune in with hopes of learning more about Bethesda's Elder Scrolls VI game, although we're unlikely to get any solid updates. Fans can also expect to see additional titles from third-party partners.
Microsoft has teased this to be a "double-feature" with the Xbox Games Showcase followed by "Redacted Direct." And it doesn't take much investigative work to figure out what this redacted direct could be dedicated to.
Although Microsoft only teased this to be a "special deep-dive into the next installment of a beloved franchise," it is being reported that the Direct will be dedicated to the new Call of Duty game.
Earlier this month, it was reported that this year's Call of Duty game will be revealed during the Xbox summer showcase. It was also rumored that this year's game will be titled Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War. It's believed that the game will be set during the Gulf War, a conflict primarily between the United States and Iraq between 1990 and 1991.
It's unclear exactly how much detail this rumored Call of Duty Direct will provide, although previous rumors it will feature "some form of deep dive into the game, presumably a campaign mission walkthrough if they go traditional." Microsoft could wait until later to reveal the multiplayer gameplay for Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, which is expected to release in October.
The Xbox Games Showcase will be streamed on June 9 through a variety of outlets, including the official Xbox channels on YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook.
Following the Xbox Games Showcase and [Redacted} Direct on June 9, gamers can look forward to a week's worth of coverage that will feature deep dives and updates on tons of Xbox games.
