Amazon’s long-rumored Mass Effect television adaptation is still moving forward and while we still know little about the story or release timeline, one major behind-the-scenes detail has just been confirmed: the show is being developed by the same production team behind Amazon’s Fallout series.

The revelation came from Mass Effect screenwriter Daniel Casey, who revealed the connection in an Instagram post back in November 2024. Though it went unnoticed at the time, fans are now picking up on the mention of Fallout’s production team as the show gains renewed attention.

"Doing this right is and has been top priority for nearly two years now," Casey wrote. "We have a great pilot script and series outline, the team that Amazon has in place (same team as #Fallout including the fantastic @scottfarris) is incredible."

The name drop of Scott Farris, a senior television executive and creative strategist at Amazon (according to his LinkedIn), reinforces that the Mass Effect series is being shepherded by experienced hands. While the writing staff is different from Fallout, many of the top-level producers and strategists appear to have carried over likely due to Fallout’s critical and fan success.

There’s still no official word on whether the series will adapt the original Mass Effect trilogy or tell a new story within the universe. Some early reports claimed the show would directly adapt the story of Commander Shepard, but that information is widely believed to be placeholder text. Given the immense narrative flexibility in Mass Effect where players make their own choices and customize their Shepard it would be difficult to produce a universally accepted version of that story.

Many fans are instead hoping Amazon takes the Fallout route: create a brand-new character and narrative that exists alongside the games rather than trying to replicate them. This would allow the series to remain faithful to the universe while sidestepping the problem of canonizing certain decisions or alienating fans of either the male or female Shepard.

With a pilot script and series outline already complete, the next steps likely involve casting, production scheduling, and development planning. As with Fallout, which won praise for its worldbuilding and faithful aesthetic, Amazon seems intent on capturing the tone and complexity of its video game source material.

For now, fans can rest assured that the Mass Effect show is in capable hands and with Amazon’s recent success adapting Fallout, hopes are high for a faithful and compelling expansion of the Mass Effect universe.
