SAVE YOUR NUTS EXCLUSIVE Interview: Triple Scale Games On DLC And What Didn't Make It Into The Game

For anyone unfamiliar with Save Your Nuts, it is a recently released title from Montreal Developer Triple Scale Games, wich was founded by Frederic Bohn. The game is available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PS4 and it sees players control numerous critters in a multiplayer challenge in either local or online matches. With several match types which are silly versions of games like Capture the Flag and King of the Hill, there is plenty of fun for the whole family.

We recently had the honor of speaking to Frederic Bohn, who is not only the Indie Developer behind Save Your Nuts, but he also founded Triple Scale Nuts back in 2017. Being in charge of the game he had much to say about behind the scenes secrets, trivia, what didn't make it into the game, and even what else is to come.

Whether you're trying to figure out whether you want to play the title or if you are already a fan of the game, you'll definitely want to dig into Bohn's comments below. Take a look and see what you think for yourself!

Joe: There are numerous characters and maps in Save Your Nuts. Were any of them more difficult to create than the others?

Frederic Bohn: The arenas that look the most simple are actually the ones we had more trouble to create (The garden and the park). They are the 1st arenas the players will discover so it was important to have a level design very accessible but interesting at the same time. We had to redesign it multiple times.

Joe: Can fans look forward to any potential Downloadable Content in the future? Maybe more playable rodents or additional maps to enjoy?

Frederic Bohn: Yes, we want to add more game modes and more characters and also improve the graphics and the music and SFX. We are thinking about adding a free for all modes because right now all the modes are team based.

Joe: If there could be one more critter added in, what would it be?

Frederic Bohn: A cat.

Joe: Was there anything created for the game or planned for it that didn’t end up making it in?

Frederic Bohn: The PS4 version, we are still working on it and we hope to be able to release it this year. There were some ideas of features (power gauge, flame thrower) and maps (volcano, mine) we started to make but we stop it to work on something else when we realized it would not be fun enough. That’s normal in a game production, we have to try a lot of ideas and keep only the best one for the final version.

Joe: The title is one that can definitely be enjoyed by the whole family but Save Your Nuts doesn’t hold back from the puns. Was there ever any pushback on how far you went with the silliness?

Frederic Bohn: We chose this title because it’s fun and easy to remember it because of the double meaning. The intention was to make a game where everybody can have fun together, so we thought it was a good idea to add silly jokes for the adults playing with their kids without risking to choose anyone.

Joe: Is there any interesting trivia you can share with us about the behind the scenes process for the game?

Frederic Bohn: During my vacation in the small Brazilian city of my wife, a local school teacher proposed me to come to do a talk about how video games are developed to inspire the kids. It was very interesting to see the difference of behaviour and questions of the kids from one class to any others, each class having kids of different ages. It was hard to leave because the kids were having so much fun and screamed a lot when they tried the game. It was a great experience.

Joe: Is there anything you would like me to share with your audience?

Frederic Bohn: There is a free demo if you want to try the game (a demo is available on PC, XB1 and Switch). You can come to our discord server to share ideas and talk about the game with the devs and the community.
