Derek Yu, Spelunky video game designer, has taken to Twitter to announce that Spelunky 2 — which was expected to release for the PlayStation 4 and Steam — will no longer be releasing in 2019 as initially planned.

While this may be disappointing news for fans of Spelunky, the good news is that development for Spelunky 2 is going well and not too far off target. Keeping this in mind, it is likely that the game ends up releasing early in 2020.

Yu has also updated fans on the project itself, stating that they have been gathering feedback and fixing some things that have to do with the game's presentation; something that should make Spelunky fans even more excited for the sequel.

The update doesn't reveal a tentative release date for Spelunky 2, but Derek Yu assures fans that as soon as they have an official release date they'll make sure everyone knows.
