One of the first things that fans of the
Yooka-Laylee series noticed when Playtonic announced
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair — the game's full-fledged sequel — was that the music sounded somewhat familiar; and it should, as it was written by
Donkey Kong Country series composer David Wise.
As revealed in the first official trailer for
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, this 2D platformer sequel will have the first game's composer Grant Kirkhope teaming up with David Wise to write the music — which fits the game's tone perfectly, as both have worked on the
Donkey Kong series and their musical identity complement each other really well.
Today, Playtonic shared a new music track for
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, which is titled "Underwater Saunter" and is written by Matt Griffin — in what seems to be his first major work as a video game composer.
What's even more interesting is that this new track definitely shows the influence David Wise had on him, as the song sounds very similar to
Donkey Kong Country's "Aquatic Ambience" music track. Needless to say, the game is already in great hands from a musical standpoint.
