Lord of Nazarick, the turn-based mobile RPG based on Overlord, is coming to an end. The game's official X account announced on October 14 that the team has made "the difficult decision to end the service of Lord of Nazarick," and the shutdown is already underway. In-game purchases were switched off the same day, and the servers will go offline for good on December 16, 2026.
The announcement thanks players for their support since launch but does not give a reason for the closure. Check out the full post below:
The Shutdown Schedule
The closure is happening in two stages. The first one hit on October 14 at 10:00 a.m. UTC-2, which was 8:00 a.m. EDT. At that point, in-game purchases and top-ups were disabled, new account creation was closed, the game was pulled from every app store, and the official Discord channel was shut down.
Anyone who already has the game installed can keep playing for about two more months. The final stage arrives on December 16 at 10:00 a.m. UTC-2, or 7:00 a.m. EST. Logins will be disabled, the servers will go offline, and the official website and social media accounts will close at the same time.
The post does not mention refunds for recent purchases or any kind of offline version, so players who spent money on the game should keep an eye on official channels before they close. With the store already gone, the remaining weeks are a chance to finish the story and spend whatever currency is left in the account.
Just Over Two Years Of Service
Lord of Nazarick launched worldwide on iOS and Android on October 29, 2024. Perfect World developed the game, while Crunchyroll Games published it in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Nordic countries, Australia, New Zealand, and Latin America. A PLUS JAPAN handled publishing in most European countries and the Middle East.
The launch was timed to the first Overlord movie. Crunchyroll pitched the game as a way to catch up on the story ahead of Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom, which opened in theaters across the United States and Canada on November 8, 2024. The game retold the anime's story from a fresh perspective and added new canon scenarios, culminating in the first season's big final battle.
Players stepped into the role of Ainz Ooal Gown and recruited more than 50 characters from the anime at launch, including the Floor Guardians and the Pleiades. Albedo, Shalltear Bloodfallen, and Demiurge were all part of the roster, and new characters kept arriving through regular updates. Parties were built across five classes and three attributes, and the game also had roguelite dungeons, boss challenges, mini-games, alliances, and a PvP arena with leaderboards.
Fans could also wander around familiar locations like the Great Tomb of Nazarick, Carne Village, and E-Rantel. On top of that, Lord of Nazarick was the first game to fully use Crunchyroll Login. Players who linked a Crunchyroll Premium membership received daily rewards worth more than $35 in in-game currency each month, along with access to an exclusive in-game shop and a battle pass.
Where Overlord Stands Now
The shutdown does not affect the rest of the franchise. Overlord began as a web novel by Kugane Maruyama before being adapted into light novels and manga. It follows Momonga, a salaryman who logs into the MMORPG Yggdrasil one last time before the servers shut down, only to find himself trapped in its world as the Sorcerer King Ainz Ooal Gown.
There is an obvious irony in a game based on a story about an MMO's final night now going through its own server shutdown. All four seasons of the anime, along with the recap films Overlord: The Undead King and Overlord: The Dark Hero, are still streaming on Crunchyroll, so fans who want to keep spending time in Nazarick have plenty to watch once the game goes dark.
Did you play Lord of Nazarick before the shutdown announcement, or would you rather see Overlord get a full console or PC game instead of another mobile RPG?
