Niantic first launched their wildly successful augmented reality mobile game in the Summer of 2016, and it has been picking up speed like an unleashed Katamari (see:
Katamari: Damacy) ever since. The team gradually added more features over the years and it seems like the events keep piling on the longer the game is out.
Its possible that the cold is driving Niantic to add so many updates to the game - or perhaps it could be the rising age of their app and the developer is doing everything in their power to keep up interest and replayability for their title. Whichever is the case, fans are reaping the benefits of the new features.
One of the biggest changes is that Niantic has begun trying out "experiments" rather than simply introducing new implementations to the game. Slightly altering the process of the Community Day Event schedule, for the first time ever Niantic put the power in the hand of the players by allowing them to vote for either Machop, Dratini, Vulpix, or Rhyhorn.
As it has previously been reported, the latter won the vote and today Rhyperior will have his time to shine. Any Rhyperior that are evolved during or up to two hours after the event will learn the special move Rock Wrecker that would normally be unavailable otherwise.
In addition to the chance at nabbing a shiny Rhyhorn in the wild and the opportunity for plenty Rhyhorn candy to beef up your Rhyperior - there will also be a reward of three times Catch Stardust. This means that any trainers who have been hanging on to star pieces will have the best chance to use them during the event and truly reap the benefits.
February's Community Day takes place today, and for Trainers in the North Hemisphere the event will be live from 11 am to 2 pm and meanwhile those in the Southern Hemisphere will have a 3 pm to 6 pm Community Day schedule. Will you be taking part? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
