2020 has already been an exciting year for Trainers in
Pokémon Go, as Niantic has begun trying out new "experiments" — which are events that they are testing to keep things interesting and see what works before implementing new features into the game permanently.
The first experiment came ahead of February's Community Day Event, with players given the opportunity to vote for one out of four choices as to who would feature on the upcoming day's event. Voting took place this past Saturday, and Rhyhorn took the prize — meaning that the rock Pokémon will be the focus of the upcoming event.
Voting for Community Day may have been the first in this line of experiments from Niantic, but it wasn't the last as another Rock-Type Pokémon got the attention today in the first ever Pokémon Spotlight Hour. Niantic didn't announce that it was Onix who would be featured ahead of time; however, and though there were rumors on the internet, the rock snake wasn't confirmed until the event took place on Tuesday between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
During the event Onix (and more importantly Shiny Onix) popped up all over the place, allowing players to gather the candy needed to train a worthy battle opponent for the Go League. Its evolution is the powerful Steelix which requires a Metal Coat to evolve, but they aren't too hard to find for Trainers who play regularly.
Another experimental event has also been announced in the form of the Mystery Bonus Hour, though details on that are sparce at the moment. Of course, once we get the full rundown we will be sure to share it with you right away!
