In a recent interview from Finder.com.au, Bethesda marketing executive Peter Hines reaffirmed the game studio's lack of interest in seeing film adaptations of their two genre defining game IPs, Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. But in the case of the latter, they'd make an exception for Lord of the Rings helmer Peter Jackson. Said Hines, "I think if Peter Jackson turned up at [Bethesda game director Todd Howard]’s office and said, ‘I want to do Elder Scrolls,’ well that would be a pretty serious conversation you would have to listen to. But I think Peter is probably pretty busy. So I don’t see us anytime soon looking at movies."
Warcraft has come and gone and while it achieved respectable numbers at the worldwide box office, the film was a certifiable flop in North America. And with studios only seeing a 1/3 of box office revenue from China, even the film's impressive numbers in the Far East have to be examined with a discerning eye. If Michael Fassbender's Assassin's Creed suffers a similar fate, the current wave of video game film adaptations just might stall out.
But if by some miracle, Peter Jackson were to helm an Elder Scrolls film - which of the entries would you want to see him tackle first - Morrowind, Oblivion or Skyrim?
