A live-action adaptation has been in the works since 2016, which is at the same time Paul W.S. Anderson — the same director that gave us the Resident Evil series of live-action films — was signed to produce the film; eventually, he would also go on to direct it.
Paul W.S. Anderson being the director of Monster Hunter raised a few red glags, or at lest that's what fans of both the Resident Evil and Monster Hunter series believed, as his take on Capcom's survival-horror series took too many liberties that didn't bode well with long-time fans.
The first teaser for the upcoming movie was released a few weeks ago, and the reception was rather mixed. Sure, the teaser itself didn't really show us anything, but some fans were cautiously optimistic, while others were simply not supportive of Anderson's take on the series; everyone agreed that Rathalos looked phenomenal, though.
Today Sony Pictures Entertainment has released the first official trailer for Monster Hunter, and the truth is that the movie doesn't look terrible; that is, if you are willing to accept that this is a Paul W.S. Anderson movie with a very Paul W.S. Anderson take on Monster Hunter.
Interestingly enough, the official trailer for Monster Hunter has been received fairly positively, with over 3 thousand likes and less than 500 dislikes as of this writing. With that said, Milla Jovovich's character is basically Alice from the Resident Evil movies, and some scenes actually look like taken straight out of Anderson's Resident Evil; sans the zombies, of course.
We'll let you be the judge, but it does look like the Monster Hunter movie could end up becoming a pretty serviceable film that will, hopefully, satisfy fans of Capcom's best-selling Monster Hunter series.
Check it out:
Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When an unexpected sandstorm transports Captain Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower.
Monster Hunter is expected to hit theatres worldwide this December.
