Jordan Vogt-Roberts is at the helm of a movie adaptation of Hideo Kojima's major video game franchise Metal Gear Solid. The director is best known for Kong: Skull Island and has been attached to the Metal Gear Solid movie since 2014. Vogt-Roberts provided an update on the Metal Gear Solid movie back in May — check that out here.
Once, he even made it clear that he would love to make a movie based on Metroid — more on that here. It's clear that he's a big fan of video games and has a lot of ideas he wants to pursue. Well, in line with that, Vogt-Roberts recently said that he would like to make an animated series based on Metal Gear Solid featuring none other than the original voice actor of Snake, David Hayter.
Vogt-Roberts featured on the latest episode of Animal Talking. It's a talk show hosted by screenwriter Gary Whitta that takes place entirely within Animal Crossing: New Horizons. While on the show, Vogt-Roberts spoke a bit about the live-action Metal Gear Solid movie and even showed off his Metal Gear Solid arm tattoo.
According to Vogt-Roberts, he's "trying to get an animated series going that brings back David Hayter, that brings back the original voice cast, and doing that in tandem [with the MGS movie]."
Of course, nothing will likely see the light of day until Vogt-Roberts has finished his work on the live-action movie. However, it's certainly interesting to hear that the series could perhaps tie-in with the movie adaptation. Speaking of the live-action film, Vogt-Roberts had the following to say about that:
"I've been on that movie for six years, and I've been fighting every single day to make sure that we translate that movie properly. This is my baby. I've been working on this thing for six years, trying to make it, so it is the disruptive, punk-rock, true to Metal Gear, true to Kojima-san spirit version of what this is and I will continue to fight for it every day."
Vogt-Roberts continued: "It's a difficult thing. Getting any movie made in Hollywood is hard. Getting something like Metal Gear made where it is so complex is even harder. That's why I'm trying to make it for a budget where you can do crazy shit, where you can do the Metal Gear version of it, where it isn't neutered."
