Heading into Take-Two Interactive's earnings call today, the one big question was whether or not we would get a release date for Grand Theft Auto 6.
While no specific release date was announced, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick did narrow the launch window for the highly anticipated game.
"Our outlook reflects a narrowing of Rockstar Games' previously established window of Calendar 2025 to Fall of Calendar 2025 for Grand Theft Auto 6," Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said. "We are highly confident that Rockstar Games will deliver an unparalleled entertainment experience, and our expectations for the commercial impact of the title continue to increase."
The updated launch window comes on the heels of multiple reports claiming that GTA 6 would be delayed.
Rockstar officially revealed Grand Theft Auto 6 with an impressive trailer back in December 2023. At the time, the developer would only commit to 2025 as a release window. With GTA 6 now reportedly in the final stages of development, it sounds like Take-Two is confident there will be no delay. Of course, anything is possible, especially in the gaming industry. And when you've got a game as massive as Grand Theft Auto, you know Rockstar is going to do everything in its power to deliver another smash hit.
Grand Theft Auto 6 has only been announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version of the game is expected at some point, although there was no mention during the call.
The highly anticipated next installment in the blockbuster open world adventure series takes the fun to the fictional state of Leonida — based on Florida — which includes Vice City, a fictionalized version of Vice City. The trailer poked fun at the crazy memes associated with Florida and parodied contemporary American culture with satirical depictions of social media and influencer culture.
Not much is known about the game's story, other than it stars dual protagonists. We've already been introduced to Lucia, the franchise's first playable female main protagonist, but there's also an unnamed male character that some fans speculate is named Jason.
The initial reveal trailer depicted Lucia as a prison inmate who towards the end looked like was on the run from the cops alongside the mysterious male character. The story is said to have been inspired by Bonnie and Clyde.
If Rockstar meets the 2025 release window, it will have been 12 years since the launch of Grand Theft Auto 5. To say fans are simply excited for a new game in the franchise would be a tremendous understatement.
