Rockstar Games' critically acclaimed blockbuster Grand Theft Auto 5 may be coming to PC Game Pass in the future. The rumor stems from a post on social media from user Tez2.

Nothing official has been announced as of yet, but the fact the game used to be available on Xbox Game Pass before it was removed earlier this year, suggests there could be some truth to the speculation. Tez2 adds that while you will be able to launch it from the Xbox App, it will still go through the Rockstar Games Launcher, so it won't be cross-platform.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was available on Xbox Game Pass for six months before it was removed earlier this year with no reason given. It was also taken down from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog earlier this year.

Although Grand Theft Auto 5 launched in September 2013 for Xbox 360 and PS3, it didn't come to PC until April 2015. It finally came to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in March 2022.

GTA 5 was both a critical and commercial success, breaking industry sales records. It earned $800 million in its first day and $1 billion in its first three days.

GTA Online, the online multiplayer action-adventure sandbox portion of the game, was released in October 2013 and since become a huge moneymaker for Rockstar Games. In fact, it's been stated that the success of Grand Theft Auto Online is the reason Rockstar didn't fully go through with plans to release story DLC for the main single-player campaign.

Earlier this month, a former Rockstar developer revealed that the studio was working on standalone story DLC for GTA 5, but that it was ultimately canceled after the launch of GTA Online. The DLC supposedly focused on the character of Trevor, played by Steven Ogg, who also seemingly confirmed the concept of a "James Bond"-esque secret agent mission.

Regardless of the lack of DLC, it seems that there are more than enough people enjoying the multiplayer mode that continues to receive new content regularly.

I can't imagine that anyone who has wanted to play Grand Theft Auto 5 hasn't already purchased it yet. But assuming the rumor is true, anyone on PC subscribed to PC Game Pass will be able to download and play it.

Rockstar Games is currently hard at work developing Grand Theft Auto 6 for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. There's been no confirmation of a PC version of the game, although many expect it will come at some point. The game is targeting a 2025 release.
